From Seed To Cup: Iconik Coffee Roasters

Santa Fe, New Mexico has a lot to offer with its rich history, Spanish Pueblo Revival look and beautiful art throughout the city. It’s hard to believe that all of this is only a 45 minute drive from Albuquerque. And of course, what goes better with art and history than a cup of coffee. Enter: Iconik Coffee Roasters.

We made a pitstop to Iconik Coffee Roasters on our way back from Taos the other weekend and almost didn’t make it (two thumbs up for the guys working who didn’t make a stink about us wanting our cups of coffee in proper cups twenty minutes before they were closing). Nestled within the Lena Street Lofts, Iconik Coffee Roasters is Sante Fe’s answer to third wave coffee. And boy, do they deliver!

Now, this is #coffeeshopvibes.

As soon as you walk in you’re greeted by the various art hanging on the walls, cozy seating arrangements and a gigantic industrial roaster with a pretty, delicate chandelier hanging above it, naturally. The juxtaposition of dainty and soft mixed with the open and industrial really works in Iconik’s favor. It’s almost like an art piece in of itself. A conversational piece to be had by every person who walks in for the first time. After taking in the visual overload, we headed over to the bar and grabbed a latte and a cold brew. Surprise, surprise…we know.

Savoring every last drop of the latte and cold brew.

Since it was late in the day, not many people were in the shop, but a few were outside on the patio enjoying the warm weather and their coffee. A man in a corner was sitting on his computer in deep thought and we wondered if it was George R.R. Martin (author of Game of Thrones and admired Santa Fe resident). But, alas, we were too afraid to go up to the white-bearded man and bother him, whether he was GRRM or not. But, let’s just say he was, so that we can say we had coffee with the creator of Game of Thrones. Yeah, that sounds like a cooler story.

The excitement of seeing GRRM shouldn’t be overshadowed by the coffee because Iconik Coffee Roasters is definitely in an elite league of coffeeshops and among the shops blazing the trail in New Mexico (along with Deep Space Coffee, Humble Coffee and Prismatic Coffee….to name a few).

A latte and a view.

And wowza, we don’t know if we were getting the coffee jitters due to the massive amounts of coffee we had from earlier in the day, but Iconik’s coffee definitely kicked it up a notch or two. First sip of the cold brew and you’re feeling alive. It’s the kind of brew that doesn’t need any coconut milk or sugar to it. Why mess with perfection, right? And the latte was right up our alley, too – deliciously, velvety smooth. We had arguments over who would get to finish the last few sips and made a mental note to come back and have our own lattes.

Loving all the different bits of seating throughout Iconik.

As we hurriedly sipped on our drinks, we gazed at all the different seating arrangements from long tables to comfy leather sofas to high tables, Iconik Coffee Roasters has a seat (and a drink) for everybody! This is a perfect spot to hang out with your friends or work on your next New York Times best seller (just sayin’…). And if you’re wanting to take home a piece of Iconik Coffee Roasters with you (besides a bag of their coffee), you can shop their apparel and mug section, too.

Make it official and get tatted at Iconik Coffee Roasters with one of these babies.

Iconik Coffee Roasters is a religious experience for any coffee lover. Just like their motto says, “From seed to cup…everything matters.” It shows in the quality of their stores, their baristas and, most importantly, their coffee. The kind of coffeeshop that needs to be up there with Intelligentsia or Verve. Heck, in our minds and after just one visit, it is up there with those powerhouse third wave coffeeshops. It’s that good and they know it because they’ve opened up another shop in downtown Santa Fe. It’s a perfect spot before or after a long day of walking around to the various art galleries, Georgia O’Keefe museum and beautiful churches. Do yourself a favor and take a trip to the oldest state capital in the United States and head to Iconik Coffee Roasters to grab an espresso to sit and sip or a cold brew to fuel up for the day before heading out to Meow Wolf or heading out for a hike.
