Milk & Honey: Dealing with Betrayal

Friends can be the ultimate betrayal. The same people that we eat with, pray with and share our life with can stab us in the back worse than any enemy. So, how do we deal with such a hurt and should we forgive them? Read more to find out what you should do when you’re dealing with betrayal and how to overcome one of the biggest hurts.

“If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide. But, it is you a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God, as we walked about among the worshipers.” Psalm 55:12-14 (NIV)

Anyone who knows a smidgen of the Bible, knows that Jesus was betrayed by one of his closest friends, Judas. A man who was one of His disciples – they shared meals together, prayed together, traveled together and were as close as brothers.  Continue reading “Milk & Honey: Dealing with Betrayal”

Milk & Honey: Getting Burnt Out

Confession: sometimes we get burnt out and just need a break from it all. Breaks are an essential part of life, yet we tend to overwork ourselves until we’ve reached a breaking point. But, it’s okay to hit the reset button, step away from the busyness of life and have the Lord refresh your soul. We can do this!

Confession time: running an Instagram and blog dedicated to our daily coffee run is quite consuming. Sure, it’s fun to visit shops, take pictures and write something about each location, but just like a regular 9-5 job, it takes work. Lots of work. And a lot of constantly obsessing over analytics and your brand.

And here’s where the true confession comes along; sometimes we get burnt out and just need a break from it all. Continue reading “Milk & Honey: Getting Burnt Out”

Milk & Honey: Trust

This week’s topic is going to ask a very simple question. One that God put on our hearts this morning and really woke us up inside! He asked us, “Do you trust me with your life?”

And He doesn’t mean just a portion or only when you feel like it. He means with your entire life – your finances, your job, your relationships, and the list goes on.

Do you trust that God will provide for you through it all or are you just a fair-weather fan?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)

We know that a lot of our topics are centered around finding your purpose, knowing your identity in Christ and being yourself. They are topics to encourage and uplift you. To let you know that God’s got this and that you are not alone. And if we’re being real, they are topics that we feel compelled to write about because well, they’re questions and thoughts that we have about our own lives.

And because we struggle with different things and have seasons of busyness, we want to apologize for not focusing on our blog for the past few weeks. Family time is really important to us and so we kinda drop everything as soon as family comes to visit! But, we’re back with a good topic for this week’s Milk & Honey devotional, so we hope you guys enjoy it and can’t wait to discuss it with you!  Continue reading “Milk & Honey: Trust”

Milk & Honey: Encouraging Friends

As you can see by the title, this week we’re talking about encouraging our friends and having friends that encourage us! We all need and crave a good support system of people who will rally around us during different seasons of our lives, pray with us, and be a shoulder to lean on. As humans, we want to feel connected and a part of a group of people, a squad, an entourage…whatever you call it, we want to feel LOVED!

Hey all! Sorry that this devotional is coming to you a little late in the day. To be honest, we had a topic set and written, but as Monday approached, we felt Him give us a little nudge into a different direction. As you can see by the title, this week we’re talking about encouraging our friends and having friends that encourage us! Continue reading “Milk & Honey: Encouraging Friends”

Milk & Honey: Feeling Lost

Just when we thought feeling lost and not quite fitting in left us after high school, here it comes creeping back into our lives in our mid-twenties. Some call it the quarter-life crisis, some call it the soul-searching years, but whatever it’s called…it totally sucks. If you’ve asked yourself what your purpose is and wondered if anyone is even hearing your cries, rest-assured that God understands what you’re going through and does have a purpose for you – you might even be living it out right now!

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10 (NIV).

Milk & Honey: Priorites

“I never have time to do anything!” “How do they afford to travel around Europe?!”

These are just a few statements we’ve uttered to each other (and to ourselves) in the last few months. Ironically enough, we’re typing up this post at 4pm after a busy weekend and extremely busy Monday wondering where the time went. It’s so easy to become distracted by “important” stuff that we sometimes miss the mark. We forget that Jesus doesn’t care about any of that. He cares about our hearts and spending time with us, so we can get to know Him on a deeper level. As we press into Him and love Him, we get to know ourselves better and our priorities will change. So, in this week’s Milk & Honey, we’re talking about priorities.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34 (NIV)

“I never have time to do anything!” “How do they afford to travel around Europe?!” “Why does life seem so much easier for them?”

See the reasoning behind calling it Milk & Honey here), we’re talking about priorities.  Continue reading “Milk & Honey: Priorites”

Milk & Honey: Love One Another

From an early age we’re taught to love others, whether you’re a follower of Christ or not. Our parents tell us to be nice to the boy who keeps picking on us in class or we’re reminded to ‘Kill ’em with kindness” no matter how rude somebody is to you. But, since we’re all imperfect people living in an imperfect world, we sometimes fall short and end up saying something hurtful, having a poor attitude and worst of all, turning somebody away from having a relationship with Jesus.

“A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35 NIV)

Milk & Honey: Heart of Compassion

Last week we talked about being true to yourself and knowing your identity in Christ; this week we’re kinda doing a 180 and telling you to get uncomfortable. At first it might seem awkward, weird and plain ‘ol crazy, but something sort of magical happens when you put yourself out there, vulnerable and without any preconceived notions. What’s crazy about it all is realizing that you could have missed out on some of the best opportunities and/or best friends if you hadn’t gotten out of your comfort zone.

“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in Spirit and of one mind. (Phillipians 2:1-2 NIV)

Last week we talked about being true to yourself and knowing your identity in Christ; this week we’re kinda doing a 180 and telling you to get uncomfortable. We know what you’re thinking: What? No, I like feeling comfortable, going to the same places, hanging out with the same people, sleeping in a comfy bed every night… Continue reading “Milk & Honey: Heart of Compassion”

Milk & Honey: Be Yourself

God made us all different, allowing us to have our own unique qualities to share with the world. He doesn’t want us all to think the same way, look the same or act the same. He wants us to be individuals who embrace our story, the good and bad.

We hope you guys have enjoyed the past two devotionals as much as we’ve enjoyed writing them! We know the topic of God and “religion” isn’t the status quo and we’re not blind to the fact that it induces a lot of feelings – from inspired to annoyed to confused. However, like we’ve said since we introduced this new portion of our blog, this is a part of who we are. This isn’t some kind of trend or way for us to look better than other people. It’s how we live our lives and the cornerstone of everything that we do! In that regard, our purpose isn’t to try and alienate you, our friends; our purpose is to share something special with you and if it only resonates with one person, then that’s pretty awesome!

So, without further ado, this week’s topic is about being yourself and staying true to what makes you rad! It’s easy to get caught up in this whole facade of keeping up with the Kardashians (no hate, that show is entertaining) where we want our lives to have the appearance of being effortless and great. We tend to hide the shame or the things that make us unique as to not break the status quo and appear “normal.” Continue reading “Milk & Honey: Be Yourself”

Milk & Honey: Faith Over Fear

When we’re little kids we have this sort of fearlessness and boldness to us, yet as we grow up and go through heartbreaks, hardships and various life events, we become a little more cautious, a little more weary causing us to talk ourselves out of doing BIG things with our lives. The things that we were meant to do. The things that scare us so much that we rarely take the risk because we like the security and comfort on this side of the fence. And we continue on with our mundane lives, always wishing and dreaming (and becoming jealous) as we see others going for their own personal callings.

However, that’s not why God created us. He doesn’t want us to play it safe and stand in the shadows of our own dreams and aspirations. We are His children and He wants us to have a child-like boldness as we move in faith towards our purpose. So, this week we encourage you to break those chains of “I can’t” or “I’m not worthy” and take a leap of faith trusting that God will guide you to where you need to be – to have faith over fear!
